BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Senior men’s basketball player Josh Taylor was honored with second team All-Ohio Valley Conference accolades as announced by the league this evening. Voting was done by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.
The native of Pittsburgh, Pa., set a new EKU record by playing in his 125th career game on Feb. 27 against Murray State. The forward became the 29th Colonel to reach 1,000 career points when he led Eastern with 20 points in the win over Winthrop on Feb. 20.
This year, Taylor ranks second on the team in scoring at 13.2 points per game and third in the OVC in three-pointers made per game at 2.3. He was named to the 2009 O’Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic all-tournament team after helping EKU post wins over Fairleigh Dickinson, UC Irvine and UTSA.
Taylor’s name will forever be remembered in Eastern Kentucky lore thanks to netting the game-winning shot, which was his only shot, in the 2007 OVC championship game.
The Colonels (20-12) fell to Eastern Illinois in the OVC tournament quarterfinals on Tuesday.

February 23, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - "DePauw University holds the top seeds in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference basketball tournaments beginning at Rhodes College and Memphis University School today," notes today's Memphis Commercial Appeal. "The Tiger men enter with a record of 21-4, 12-2, but will be fighting history when it opens at 6 p.m. against eighth-seeded Sewanee. Only one top-seeded men's team in the previous four conference tournaments has reached the finals."
Of the women's tourney, the newspaper reports, "Top-seeded DePauw (22-3, 12-2) won the regular-season title by a game over Oglethorpe in a balanced conference. No team enters with more than a three-game winning streak. And unlike in the men's division, the women's event has always held true to form. The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds have played for the titles in each of the previous four years."
All games in the SCAC tournament can be heard live online via DePauw's student radio station, WGRE. Both DePauw teams tip off versus Sewanee (University of the South) at 7 p.m. (Greencastle time) tonight, with the men playing at Memphis University School and the women at Rhodes.
"Semifinals are Saturday and Sunday's championships are set for noon (women) and 2:30 p.m. (men)," adds the article. "The tournament winner gets an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III championship."
